Debbie Oquendo is a pastel artist based in St. Augustine, Florida. Her work has been exhibited  at the St.Augustine Art Association and featured in the International Floral Edition book. Oquendo has also showcased  her paintings in a solo exhibition " I Only Dream in Color"  at her studio.

Artist Statement

My paintings invite viewers on a vibrant journey through  color, expressed in  the medium of pastels. This journey began  in the South Bronx, watching my mother bring color to life on our kitchen table. It continued in New York City as a makeup artist  where working on the human canvas helped me develop a keen eye for color. Using  colorful pigments, textures and my hands as a paintbrush naturally lead me to pastels. I am captivated by it's possibilities. My creative process is driven by intuition, imagination and memories. At the heart of my inspiration lies cherished  memories of my mother coloring with crayons. Moving between delicate imagery and bold strokes, I channel my emotions onto each canvas. Each piece extending an invitation to pause, reflect, and immerse yourself in this dance of color and light.
